"Operation Drive One" Ford's Salutes the Troops April 24 in BOLC Parking Lot Back to top.
"Operation Drive One" Ford's Salute to the Troops Event will be held on April 24, 2010 from 9am to 5pm at the BOLC Parking Lot . The BOLC Parking Lot is located directly across the street from the RecPlex and just north of the carwash. Event goers should turn west onto Miner Road from Sheridan Road and make a right turn onto Crane Rd. The event will feature a celebrity appearance by Bill Goldberg during the entire event. There will be a precision driving course, a car show, Ford “Operation Drive One” test drives, a Built Ford Tough strength competition, meet and greets with Bill Goldberg as well as many other activities. All activities during the event are free and open to the public. In order to enter the car show, drivers must pre-register at www.sillmwr.com and click on the Fort Sill Car Show link. There will be several Ford Mustang Clubs and Ford Car Clubs at the event. In order to participate in the precision driving course, drivers must sign a waiver, show valid driver’s license and hear the safety brief provided by the precision driving instructors. There will be an instructor in the vehicle during the precision driving to give tips to drivers. In order to participate in the Ford “Operation Drive One” test drives, drivers must present a valid driver’s license. A concession stand will be selling lunch from 11am to 2pm.

The Fort Sill Golf Course is still cleaning up the damage from the February ice storm. The golf course is open – including the Pro Shop, Mulligan’s, the putting green, driving range and all 18 holes. The March 2010 Fort Sill Family and Community Team Session (SillFACTS) is April 6 at 10 a.m. , at Fort Sill Welcome & Conference Center, a new location for this meeting. The philosophy of this monthly meeting is to improve the overall quality of life and delivery of human services on Fort Sill. The meeting also serves as a focal point for information exchange on matters of community interest and increases communication and interaction between Fort Sill units/directorates/activities. The meeting is open to the public. All Directors, Brigade Commanders and CSMs, Battalion Commanders and CSMs, FRG leaders, FRSAs, spouses, DoD civilians, and installation staff are invited to attend. - Volunteer Orientation - for all those interested in volunteering, to help them get started in the Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS). The orientation is held the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the MWR Training Room of Building 4700 on Mow-Way Road.
- Newcomers Orientations are held every Tuesday at 8 a.m. in Room 216 , on the second floor of Building 4700. All Soldiers and family members new to Fort Sill are invited to attend this information briefing to find out more about facilities and programs offered on Fort Sill. - The Relocation Readiness Program has combined the Waiting Families and Culture Connection Group Meetings. Waiting Families provides support for spouses and families living in the Lawton Fort Sill area while separated from their service member for mission requirements. Family members can receive help in obtaining a drivers license, information on English classes, child care and more. • Tryouts for the Army 10 Miler Qualifier will be held May 8 at Apache Gate at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m. All qualifiers must be active duty Soldiers assigned to Fort Sill. Contact the MWR Sports Office for more information at (580) 442-5623 or 442-3269.
• Beginning in May , SKIES Unlimited will offer bowling Lessons for children ages 3 through 5 . The cost for the session is $60 and includes bowling ball, shoe rental, a T-shirt, snack and juice. The classes meet every other Wednesday, beginning May 19 from 5 - 6:15 p.m. at the Twin Oaks Bowling Center. This is a great opportunity for preschoolers to learn hand and eye coordination, gross motor skills, meet new friends and learn the basics of bowling. Parents are required to attend with and assist their child during instruction. These lessons are open for family members of military personnel, DoD civilians and contractors. • Sign-up is now underway for Italian Cooking Lessons for youth ages 7 and older . Lessons will be every second Saturday of month beginning in May. Lessons will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at School-Age Center. Cost is $12 per class.
• The Family Wellness Seminar is May 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seminar is comprised of interactive workshops on Parenting, Marriage, Military Life and Personal Growth. Child care is provided for those registered by May 7. For more information, contact Angela Schertle at (580) 442-6801.
